Resorts World Awana Golf Course Reopens: A Redesigned 18 Holes at 3,100 Feet Above Sea Level
Resorts World Awana Golf Course, the 18-hole mountain layout at Genting Highlands originally opened in 1986 by the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, has reopened after its most extensive redevelopment since the course first welcomed golfers. Every one of the 18 holes has been reimagined with upgraded infrastructure, and the new-look course is now taking tee times from 7.30am daily. Green fees for hotel guests start at RM290 from Monday to Thursday, rising to RM360 on weekends and public holidays.
The redesign was handled by Parslow and Winter Golf Design, with every hole shaped by the natural contours of the land. The original course was designed by Ronald Fream, the internationally renowned architect who established Awana as one of the region's most distinctive golfing destinations, famous for its cool climate and scenic mountain landscape. Forty years on, the new course combines that natural beauty with modern all-weather turfing and enhanced drainage, delivering consistently outstanding conditions throughout the year.
What has changed on the ground
The most significant upgrade is the turf. The new course uses Zoysia matrella, a grass variety known for its durability and resilience, which means the playing surface holds up better in the highland rain and recovers faster from wear. The greens have been redesigned for greater precision, the fairways refined, and the drainage overhauled so that the course is playable in conditions that would have closed the old layout.
The new second nine opened on 1 April 2026, with the first nine following later in the spring. By June, the full 18 was back in play. The course measures 5,381 metres and plays to a par of 71, set at 3,100 feet above sea level in a well-preserved forest. The average temperature of 16 to 24 degrees Celsius makes it one of the few courses in Malaysia where you can comfortably walk 18 holes in the middle of the day.
Green fees and how to book
The pricing structure distinguishes between hotel guests and walk-in visitors, and between weekday and weekend play:
- 18-Hole Hotel Guest: RM290 (Monday to Thursday) / RM360 (Friday to Sunday and public holidays)
- 18-Hole Walk-in Guest: RM330 (Monday to Thursday) / RM480 (Friday to Sunday and public holidays)
Rates are inclusive of green fee, twin-sharing buggy and caddy fees, daily golfer's insurance and 8% SST. The driving range is open from 8am to 10pm, with 50 balls costing RM20 for all guests during the day and RM30 for walk-in guests in the evening. Tee times run from 7.30am to 9.45am in the morning and 12.30pm to 2.15pm in the afternoon, with the course open from 7.30am to 6.45pm daily.
What else is on site
The golf course is part of the wider Resorts World Awana complex, which includes four dining options. The Lodge opens at 7am and closes at 8pm, making it the breakfast option for early tee times. AYU Awana runs from 11.30am to 11pm on weekdays and until 1am on weekends, while Cheeky Grind serves from 7am. Village Fresh operates lunch and dinner hours. There is also a Stay and Play Golf package that bundles accommodation with tee times, which is the most cost-effective way to play if you are travelling from Kuala Lumpur.
The dress code is strictly enforced. Collared shirts, golf shorts or trousers and proper golf shoes are mandatory. Thermal jackets, windbreakers and rain jackets are allowed, which is a practical concession given the highland weather. Smoking is only permitted on the tee boxes, and players must complete 18 holes within 4 hours and 30 minutes to maintain the pace of play.
